Dorothy Claire Devereaux (Dottie) Obituary
Sun Lakes, Arizona - Dorothy Claire "Dottie" Devereaux (née Weikel), aged 90, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Sun Lakes, Arizona surrounded by her daughters. Born on February 23, 1936, in Camden, New Jersey, she was the beloved daughter of Thelma and Charles Weikel. Dottie grew up in Camden, NJ and attended Camden Catholic High School, where she was a spirited cheerleader. It was during her high school years that she began dating her sweetheart and lifelong partner, John "Jack" F. Devereaux. The two were married in September 1958, embarking on a beautiful journey together that spanned over six decades until Jack's passing in 2020. A devoted wife, mother and daughter Dottie embraced her roles with pride and love. She and Jack raised their five children in Cinnaminson, New Jersey—Denise Devereaux, Donna Benjamin, John Devereaux (deceased),Darlene Locke (married to Dan), and Dawn Devereaux-Davies (married to Carl). Their home was filled with warmth and joy as they maintained close friendships from their high school days while forging new bonds within their community. In their 40s, the family relocated briefly to Severna Park, Maryland, before settling in Mesa, Arizona, in 1980. It was there that Dottie and Jack entered a new chapter of life, watching their children marry and becoming proud grandparents. Known affectionately as "MomMom and PopPop" by the grandchildren—Brittany Bell(married to Brandon), Kyle Benjamin, Steven Locke (partnered with Breanna) and Randy Locke (married to Meshi) with one great grandchild Ryan Locke. Dottie cherished her family above all else. Her love and dedication were constants in their lives. In retirement, Dottie and Jack fulfilled their dream of living in Sun Lakes, Arizona. There they embraced an active lifestyle centered around tennis—a sport they both loved deeply. Dottie organized and played in numerous tennis leagues. A highly skilled player, she participated in the annual Bradshaw tournament. She also enjoyed watching tennis on television, eagerly following Grand Slam events. Beyond tennis, Dottie had a passion for dancing. She and Jack often attended evening socials at the country club where they dazzled others with their jitterbug skills. Dottie was also involved with the Red Hat Society, enjoying camaraderie and fun with fellow members. Dottie's life was marked by love, devotion, and resilience. She was a traditional homemaker who took pride in managing her home and nurturing her children. Her warmth extended to everyone she met, creating lasting friendships wherever she went—from her early days in Cinnaminson to her golden years in Sun Lakes. She is predeceased by her husband Jack; her son John; and her brothers Charles and Robert Weikel. Her memory will be forever cherished by those who knew her. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Valley for providing compassionate end-of-life care for both Dottie and Jack. A funeral mass will be held April 24, 2026 at St Steven's Roman Catholic Church in Sun Lakes, AZ to honor both Dottie and Jack Devereaux. It's only appropriate that this blessed event celebrates their passing together.
Dottie's legacy of love and kindness will live on through her family and friends. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her
